Graduate student Caleb Marshall’s paper describing the design, construction, and testing of the FENRIS group’s focal plane detector was accepted into IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement! This paper is the culmination of many years of hard work by Caleb and his co-authors.

Solid deuterium surface degradation at ultracold neutron sources
The Ultra Cold Neutron source project has just submitted a new publication (https://arxiv.org/abs/1804.08616) related to our 2016 study of solid deuterium growth. This result is part of Graham Medlin’s PhD thesis.

First results from the Majorana Demonstrator’s search for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay announced.
The Majorana Collaboration announced its first results from its search for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay (0vBB) at the APS meeting of the Division of Nuclear Physics in Pittsburgh, PA. The work, detailed in an article posted on the arXiv (https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.11608) and awaiting publication details the Demonstrator’s world-leading energy resolution among 0vBB experiments, and a background rate rivaled only by the GERDA Collaboration’s similar search for 0vBB in 76Ge.
Prof. Green’s research highlighted by NCSU
Prof. Matthew Green’s research was recently highlighted on the NCSU website in a Q&A session. His group was involved in the first measurement of coherent scattering of low-energy neutrinos off nuclei!
The research was published earlier this month in Science.
